Real Time Ultrasound Imaging
You are most probably familiar with Real Time Ultrasound Imaging (RTUI) that’s used to examine babies in utero or to visualise injured shoulder tendons. However, RTUI can also be used to visualise, assess, and retrain deep muscles that are not easily accessible. Your physio Michelle Ruvinoski is highly experienced at helping with pelvic floor and continence issues.
Pelvic Floor muscles
RTUI is mainly used to treat pelvic dysfunction noninvasively, allowing us to assess your pelvic floor and surrounding muscle function. RTUI can be used to rehabilitate the pelvic floor with the following symptoms:
- Overactive pelvic floor
- Underactive pelvic floor
- Incontinence including:
- Stress incontinence (when jumping, sneezing, coughing)
- Urgency (strong desire to urinate with little control to wait until you reach the toilet)
- Mild prolapses
- Voiding (urination) difficulties:
- Double void
- Hesitancy
- Slow stream
- Incomplete emptying
- Incontinence including:
Once the cause of your problems are identified via RTUI, your physiotherapist will then give you strategies and implement an exercise program for both your pelvic floor and surrounding musculature to ensure your symptoms are managed correctly.
