Dry Needling
Dry Needling is similar to acupuncture but based on western medicine practices, rather than oriental medical practices. We do, however, use the same single-use, hair-thin filament needles for Dry Needling as used in acupuncture. To complement your ongoing physiotherapy treatment, we may include Dry Needling as it’s ideal for treating musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction.
Trigger Point Dry Needling
This type of Dry Needling is used to reduce or deactivate muscle spasms, relieve pain, reduce stiffness, and increase range of movement. It’s often used to treat sports injuries and muscular pains. A hair-thin needle is inserted directly into the trigger point of the spasm, often where you feel a knot of muscle, and is usually close to the origin point of your pain. These trigger points can form as a result of injuries, sprains, trauma or over-contraction of a muscle. Trigger Point Dry Needling relaxes these muscle knots, resulting in less pain and an increase in movement. Relief can be instantaneous.
