TMJ (Jaw Pain)
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain affects the joint that connects your jaw to your skull, just in front of your ears. When this joint or the surrounding muscles become irritated or overloaded, it can lead to symptoms such as jaw pain, clicking or popping, headaches, ear discomfort, and difficulty opening or closing the mouth.
TMJ pain is often linked to factors like teeth grinding (bruxism), jaw clenching, poor posture, stress, or previous injury. Because the jaw works closely with the neck and surrounding muscles, dysfunction in one area can easily influence the other.

Physiotherapy plays an important role in managing TMJ pain by addressing both the symptoms and the underlying causes. Our physiotherapist Michelle (inspired by her own TMJ issues) has gone through extra training to assess how your jaw, neck, and posture are functioning together to develop a tailored treatment to get you on the road to recovery.
Treatment may include hands-on techniques or the use of dry needling to reduce muscle tension and improve joint mobility, targeted exercises to strengthen and coordinate the jaw and neck muscles, and education on daily habits that may be contributing to your pain.
Michelle can help you develop strategies to manage flare-ups, reduce clenching or grinding, and improve posture in daily activities. With the right approach, many people experience reduced pain, improved jaw movement, and better overall function.
If you’re experiencing persistent jaw pain or related symptoms, seeking physiotherapy early can help prevent the condition from becoming chronic and support a quicker, more comfortable recovery.
